What is Discovery Map?
We
are the nation’s leading map and guide publishing
franchise company and an essential player in marketing
the travel and tourism industry, the third largest and
fastest growing economic sector in the U.S. that
generates more than $525 billion a year in revenues.
Based in La Conner, Washington, Discovery Map motivates
recreational and shopping travelers to explore
communities. We produce full-color, illustrated maps,
in-room hotel guest directories, and on-line products
that are extraordinarily fun, functional and free. In
business since 1987, Discovery Map has only been
actively marketing franchises nationwide since 2004…. so
there are still lots of opportunities to own a franchise
in key destinations across the country.
What Does the Franchise Owner Do?
As
a Discovery Map franchise owner, you actually get two
businesses for the price of one. With your
hand-illustrated, customized map and your interactive
web map business (Phase 1), and later, your hotel guest
directory business (Phase 2), your role is to build
relationships with local merchants who depend on revenue
from visitor spending. You have the exciting opportunity
to enable local businesses to capture a greater share of
visitor spending by having them advertise on the map! As
a Discovery Map franchise owner, you operate in a
reciprocal relationship whereby businesses advertise on
your map and you strengthen their bottom line.
How It Works
Our
business model is actually very simple and has few
moving parts. Your profit is the difference between your
gross sales (ad revenue) and your cost of goods (maps
and hotel guest directories), less your other business
operating expenses. Unlike most franchises, we do not
collect ongoing royalties, which should save you tens of
thousands of dollars over the lifetime of your
franchise. In fact, the savings here alone could easily
pay for your franchise.
Do You Have What it Takes to become a Franchisee?
No previous publishing experience is
required, but previous business-to-business sales
experience is necessary. Classroom and field training
are provided along with ongoing operational support.
We look for candidates who:
- Are friendly
- Are outgoing
- Are
results-oriented
- Understand the
importance of meeting key deadlines
